Maintaining a level of social interaction and mental stimulation can be beneficial for individuals with Alzheimer’s and related dementia conditions, in early and later stages.
Boone County’s Family Alzheimer’s In-home Respite Program (F.A.I.R.) provides in-home support for people with Alzheimer’s or related types of dementia. The services are intended to provide beneficial stimulating activities for individuals with these conditions, while also giving critical relief and breaks to their caregivers.
Activities vary and are based on individual needs, but can include:
- Simple socialization and mind stimulation
- Arts and crafts
- Puzzles
- Gardening
- Watching family videos and/or looking at picture albums
- Sensory activities
- Cleaning/organization
- Reading together
To be eligible for the program an individual must:
- Be a resident of Boone County, WV
- Have a medical diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or related dementia
- Have an unpaid caregiver over the age of 18
